Abstract:

Background & Aim: Obesity is a metabolic disorder that can be controlled and prevented by increasing calorie consumption and reducing calorie intake from food. This study aimed to investigate the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and high-intensity resistance training (HIRT) on lipid profile and body composition in overweight and obese men. Methods: 30 overweight or obese men volunteers were equally randomized into three groups of HIIT (2.5-4 minutes of activity with 85-95% of maximum heart rate and 2.5-4 minutes of light walking), HIRT (3-6 sets with an intensity of 80-85% of 1RM, 6-8 repetitions and 30-60 seconds rest between each movement and 120 seconds rest between each set), and control. The training program lasted for 8 weeks (three sessions per week).  Before and after the last training session, blood samples were taken from all subjects in a fasting state to measure serum levels of the lipid profile. Subjects were also measured for physiological variables (body fat percentage, muscle strength and body mass index (BMI) and aerobic power). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance with repeated measures at the significance level of P <0.05. Results: weight, body fat percentage, TG and LDL serum levels were decreased significantly in HIIT and HIRT groups compared to the control group, and HDL levels and lower body muscle strength increased significantly. However, upper body muscle strength increased significantly only in HIRT group compared to the control group. The aerobic power and BMI indicators did not differ significantly between the three groups. Conclusion: It seems that HIIT and HIRT can be used as an effective protocol in improving lipid profile, body composition and physical fitness in overweight and obese men. However, the effect of HIRT protocol is more potent than HIIT.

Effects of Eight Weeks of Resistance Training and High-Intensity Interval Training on Adropin, Blood Glucose Markers, Insulin Resistance, and Body Composition of Overweight and Obese Females

Background and objectives: Previous investigations have shown that physical activity can improve insulin sensitivity and body composition by reducing the concentration of inflammatory biomarkers. The study aimed at evaluating effects of eight weeks of resistance training and high-intensity interval training on adropin, blood glucose markers, and body composition in overweight females. Methods:...

Effect of High Intensity Interval Training on the Level of Leptin and Liver Enzymes in Obese and Overweight Males

Introduction: Obesity is a complex disorder, which is characterized by excessive accumulation of adipose tissue. Leptin is a peptide hormone, which is basically secreted by adipose tissue and is effective in the regulation of body weight and fat. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of high-intensity interval training on the level of Leptin and liver enzymes in obese and over...

the effect of a high intensity interval training program on lipid profile in sedentary young men

increasing the intensity of physical activity is associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases and this may be the reason why the blood lipoprotein profiles improve. so the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of six weeks of a high intensity interval training (hiit) on lipid profile of sedentary young men. for this purpose, 18 sedentary young men voluntarily participated i...

The Effect of Sport-Specific High Intensity Interval Training on Ghrelin Levels and Body Composition in Youth Wrestlers

Background. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) may affect acylated ghrelin (AG) through changes in body composition. Objectives. The present study was designed to investigate and compare the effects of two different orders of wrestling-based HIIT on AG levels and body composition in highly trained wrestlers. Methods. Forty-two male wrestlers (aged 16–21 years) were randomly assigned to o...

Effects of Low-Intensity Resistance versus High-Intensity Interval Aerobic Training on Serum Interleukin-6 Concentration and Insulin Resistance Markers in Obese and Young Men

Introduction: Regular exercise training is a useful strategy to reduce inflammatory markers, but it is still unclear what type of training is better. Thus, this study compared the effects of 12-week of low-intensity resistance (Low-RT) and high-intensity interval aerobic training (High-IAT) on serum interleukin (IL)-6 levels and insulin resistance (IR) markers in obese and young men. Methods I...

Effects of High-Intensity Interval and Mini-Trampoline Training with Calorie Restriction on Body Composition and Aerobic Capacity in Overweight and Obese women

Introduction: Weight gain and obesity are one of the most important health issues and one of the most severe public health problems. This study aimed to determine the effect of 10 weeks of High-Intensity Interval training (HIIT) and Mini-Trampoline training (MTT) with calorie restriction (CR) on body composition and aerobic capacity in overweight and obese women. Materials and Methods: Forty-ei...
